It finally happened. Owen has suffered his first ear infection. The infection has only effected the left ear and leaving the right ear to do all the work.
For those who may be unaware, the fact that he has made it to almost 2 years old without being afflicted with any sort of ear troubles is pretty phenomenal.
Ear Infections are common in children with the average toddler getting two to three a year. Children with achondroplasia are even more prone because of abnormal drainage due to their irregular cranial structure and narrowed nasal passages. If not treated, an ear infection could lead to hearing loss.
The bad part about avoiding an infection for so long is that it apparently wanted to make up for lost time. This one was a doozy! Our Dr. said his eardrum had ruptured and was oozing puss....eeewwww....
Poor guy. Owen was an amazing trooper through it all. He was miserable, don't get me wrong, but he could have been a nightmare and wasn't. After about 18 hours of Augmenten and eardrops he was almost totally back to normal...er...average.
Unfortuntately I lost my charger for my camera battery - hence - no pictures. I have 2 days off to search for it though so hopefully it will turn up!

Poor Owen! I hope he is back to his usual self and that you find your battery...Peyton is going through withdrawals, she hasn't seen a recent pic! :) Really it's me, but isn't that why we have kids, to blame stuff on?
Aww... Poor kiddo! It's so miserable when they're sick, both because you feel terrible for them and because they go out of their way to make you miserable too! I'm glad he's feeling better, though...
I hope Owen is feeling like his old self again! Seamus also made it to almost two with only one mild ear infection.
Hope that Owen feels better soon! That's awesome that this is his first ear infection. Caitlyn has been quite lucky as well. She's only had 4 total in almost 4 years. Pretty good for an achon kid! Also, I hope you find your battery, I hate when I lose things I really need!
The fact he's gone that long without an ear infection is downright amazing. Liz had several double ear infections her first winter. And, for "old time's sake" just had another a few weeks ago. Feel better soon Owen!
Awwww! Poor Owen! Ear infections are the worst! I hope he gets over it smoothly and that you find your camera battery soon too! I think Sonya just started her first ear infection...Oh no!
Ear infections are no fun. Glad he bounced back rather quickly. Aidan has only had about 3 ear infections so he has been lucky in that respect.
Ama and Papa got the privilege of having Owen with us this weekend while poor Mom and Dad had to work. Ama (that's me...isn't that cute!!)can attest to the fact that this boy is a trooper and a half! He is so darn good natured that even ucky medicine and eardrops don't faze him! He's just a joyful, happy, amazing boy. A genius too by the way....oh the bragging I can do! Ask me if he can identify all his alphabet letters. Go ahead...ask me! And not even two yet!
Ear infections suck the big one. Literally those tubes saved my life with Preston. He ruptured eardrums often and the puss and gunk would be all over his bed. The pain until the rupture is excruciating so having the tubes-when he gets the ear infections (rarely now) he has no pain.
I feel for poor Owen-and you because they are usually not happy campers. But making it to two without an infection is MAJOR.
Poor Owen! That is great that he made it until almost 2 years old before his first ear infection though. He's such a trooper - bouncing back so quickly! I love your mom's bragging comments! Good luck finding your camera battery!
So glad Owen is on the mend!
Man, two years and no infections! That's great. Sorry it had to happen at all though. Antibiotics have worked great for us. You see a difference within a day!
Cat!
I'm so amazed Owen made it so long without an ear infection. Sorry his first one had to be so awful!!! Hopefully they heal up fine and his ears are good to go for another year or two - cross your fingers!
Trisha
Wow...poor Owen. Amelia just dealt with the same thing and I can tell you it's no picnic!! Hope he's feeling better!
