America's Top Hospitals

This report from US News & World report came out mid July rating the top hospitals in the country. They had an overall ranking and then scored by specialty. Owen receives care at the Unversity of Michgan which was ranked 13 on the overall list. It was interesting to read where U of M stood as far as the categories that Owen will need concentrated care: orthopedics and neurology (they didn't rank genetics). In the neurology department, there are 5Michigan Hosptials ranked in the top 50 (and 4 of them are in Detroit!)

I thought you would be interested to see where your hospital ranks. Give me feedback!

Well, unfortunately Kaiser didn't make the grade at all, but that may have something to do with the fact that they're not really a traditional hospital at all...

They do however have Dr. George Tiller, who is both on the LPA medical advisory board and is the bass player for the "Little Big Band" at the nationals! Yay, Dr. Tiller!

That would be enough for me Mike! I think it's a really interesting report, but is in no way indicitive of care that other hospitals give! For example, our Flint Hospital, Hurly has an excellent ER and pediatric ER. I would take Owen there before U of M if there were an emergency (and not just because it's an hour closer either!)

Thanks for sharing. It's nice to see that our hospital made the list in a few different areas ... one of them being neurosurgery. I have yet to find many achon patients in Washington state - so I have no feedback from other parent's who take their kiddo's to Children's Seattle.
Thanks!
